His Excellency Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry
Director General, Ajman Tourism Development Department
During the Arabian Travel Mart, we met with Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry General manager, Ajman Tourism Development Department who is currently promoting the Emirate with increased visibility abroad while simultaneously enhancing the visitor experience on ground.
Born and raised in the United Arab Emirates. His Excellency Saleh graduated from the American University of Dubai and has an Executive Diploma in Public Administration from Singaporean.
He has held a number of prominent positions including working with the Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing where he was the Director of overseas promotions and inward missions. One of the biggest achievements for His Excellency Saleh was helping in positioning Dubai as one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
His role involved strengthening Dubai’s position as a leading tourism destination and commercial hub and he worked there for 15 years. In 2014, he started working with a semi government organization, Meraas Holding as Director of hospitality following where he had the role of Senior Director, retail management and transactions and then as Vice President of retail marketing, promotions and recreation.
After two and a half years with Meeras, His Excellency Saleh joined Ajman Tourism and is thrilled to work in the tourism industry and help with the growth of the Emirate in the areas of retail, hospitality and recreation through tourism initiatives.
His Excellency Saleh tells us that his interest in hospitality began at a young age as his father comes from a tourism background but both his parents, because of their hospitable nature, have influenced him.
As Director General of the Ajman Tourism Board, he is hence looking at developing the destination from a tourism perspective with the promotion and marketing of the destination and bringing in investments to develop the destination further.
His Excellency Saleh tells us his priority is to strategize and look at the different sectors, different markets and the unique selling points that Ajman offers and target tourists that are looking for a destination like Ajman.
In the last year, the growth of Ajman has been impressive with a 14% increase in the number of guests this year compared to 2017 as well as an increase in hotel occupancy, reiterating that Ajman is the tourist destination of choice for many markets.
The Emirate offers growth opportunities to investors as well. Most tourists come from Europe, mainly Germany and Russia but Ajman is looking at expanding the reach to more markets both for tourism and investment in the tourism sector.
In terms of hotels, new openings in Ajman include the Wyndham Garden Ajman Corniche, Radisson Blu and of course The Oberoi and His Excellency Saleh mentions there will be many other significant developments in the Emirate to be announced soon.
His Excellency Saleh mentions that Ajman is big in sustainability long term. For instance, the Al Zorah Mangrove Reserve has natural mangroves with over a hundred species of local and migratory birds and a variety of marine species that attract nature lovers from around the world. Tourists can enjoy kayaking, golfing, watersports, hiking and cycling and enjoy wellness spas in different hotels.
On the personal front, His Excellency Saleh enjoys Falconry for sports and when not in Ajman, he like going to the Seychelles for holidays, as he loves travelling.
Looking forward, His Excellency Saleh feels that being in the public sector, he wants tourism to have a positive impact to the overall GDP of the Emirate and he intends to adopt the latest trends and best practices that help attract more visitors to the Emirate.
