Al Maha Desert Resort

Luxury hotels in Downtown Dubai are the best in the world but they have stiff competition with resorts that offer extraordinary experiences outside the city as well. Just a short 45 minutes drive from Dubai is Al Maha, A Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa, a secluded haven located within the 225-square kilometer alluring golden landscape of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR), the largest formally protected conservation reserve in the Gulf.

Al Maha Desert Resort is a luxury hide-away that resembles a Bedouin encampment, offering both leisure and business travellers memorable hospitality, privacy and comfort, adding to the romance of the desert.

The architecture of Al Maha reflects old-style Arabian design with the largest private collection of original Arabian antiques and artwork in the Gulf.  The resort houses over 2,000 historic and rare pieces of artwork, weaponry, traditional jewellery and Bedouin handicrafts, making it an important repository.

The exceptional accommodation facilities feature 37 Bedouin suites, 2 Royal Suites, 2 Emirates Suites and 1 Presidential Suite, all lavishly furnished, decorated with authentic and rare handcrafted Arabian furnishings which include the ornate Omani doors in heavy wood framed in glass tables, antiques and artefacts.

Each suite boasts a private temperature-controlled 5×4-metres swimming pool and a private deck with sun loungers, providing a secluded area for relaxing quietly or as an intimate setting for a personalized dining experience. Guests have the option to select from the in-suite menu and dine at the deck for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The private infinity pool spills out into an endless vista of dramatic desert views.

In the rooms, beautifully carved chests sit at the end of each custom made king sized beds, adding to the old world charm. Other thoughtful touches in the room include binoculars, an easel with art materials and a writing desk if you are inspired by the landscape and wildlife you spot, and feel creative.  The suites also feature spacious bathrooms with a walk-in shower, king-size bath and ‘his and hers’ vanity area.

The Royal Suite combines some of the richest living experiences with an authentic ambience that is inspired by the many Arabian artefacts and antiques. This suite features two luxurious bedrooms, a 7.5-metre private swimming pool in addition to all the features and amenities of a Bedouin suite. The Emirates Suite situated in a secluded spot also offers two luxurious bedrooms along with all the amenities and features of the Bedouin Suite, a private swimming pool, large pool deck, spacious courtyard with a well-equipped kitchen and residential quarters for private staff.

The finest of all luxury suites is the Presidential Suite, designed for guests wanting to experience the ultimate in sophistication and personalized service. A calming ambience is created with decorate water features in the inviting majlis area. With three luxurious bedrooms, private swimming pool, spacious lounge and dining facilities, an extensive fully-fitted kitchen, quarters for private staff and an Arabian influenced courtyard make this suite the perfect place to relax or entertain in splendor.

Dining at Al Maha is delightful culinary experience. Guests have a choice of in-room dining or at the resort’s signature restaurant – Al Diwan. Arabesque-inspired interiors, give this restaurant a warm and cosy feel and the open-air terrace offers stunning views of the vast expanse of the desert.

The cuisine in Al Maha is of a refined repertoire offering eclectic timeless classics curated to satisfy the palate of the resort’s international clientele. Lunchtime is all about light contemporary fare. Evenings are a more formal affair, where Al Diwaan transforms into one of the culinary landmarks of the Gulf.

Guests opting for in-room dining can experience the romance of the desert under the magic of the star-lit sky on their private pool deck. A private picnic in the desert not too far from the resort can also be arranged on special request.

Al Maha’s Timeless Spa offers a wide range of wellness, rejuvenation and beauty therapies, which include private massage rooms for couples, in- suite massage, a private Rasoul chamber, Hydrotherapy bath, a sauna and steam room including a cold plunge pool, Jacuzzi, swimming pool and a fully equipped fitness centre.

Events take place in a stunning desert camp setting only 10 minutes from the hotel, enhanced by water features and old artefacts to add to the charm. A fully-stocked bar, BBQ setup, tented areas, entertainment and traditional activities such as henna painting and sheesha are main attractions.
